How should I prepare to bring home my cat?
There are a few things you’ll need to do before you bring home your cat. Any supplies that you need should be bought before you begin the process of adoption. The following is a list of things you’ll need before you bring your cat home:
Litter box and litter. All cats will need a litter box, litter, and litter scoop. Small kittens will need a shallow litter box until they’re large enough to climb into a full sized litter box. You can even use a disposable aluminum pan as a litter box for your kitten if you’re unable to find a shallow litter box.
Food and water bowls. In addition to the food that goes inside, you’ll need both food and water bowls for your cat. Feeding times may vary, but make sure your cat always has fresh, clean water.
Scratching post. All cats (kittens especially) are prone to scratching. In order to prevent scratches on any of your furniture, you’ll need to buy a scratching post for your cat.
Toys. All cats, from kittens to adults, need exercise. Buying your cat a few toys will encourage them to get the exercise that they need. Be sure to buy a few different toys, as cats tend to get bored of playing with the same toy for a while.
Grooming tools. Even short hair cats need to be brushed occasionally, so be sure to buy a brush for your new cat. Some brushes are designed for specifically long hair or short hair cats, so read the labels on the brushes while you shop and be sure to purchase one that is designed for your cat’s fur.
